With the 2020VS Paper Folder, Martin Yale
has taken all the great features of its popular 1217A machine and added
a variable speed control. Here we will take a closer look at the
2020VS, and give you some of the machines strengths and weaknesses as
we see them.
Strengths:
While we have found a lot of Centrifugal Barrel Finishing Machine Factory
other paper folders lacking in versatility, the 2020Vs gets high marks
for its flexibility. This machine can fold paper in just about any
size, from four by four inches to eleven by seventeen and even A3 and
tabloid sizes. The 2020VS is a great choice of
folding machine for businesses that are seeking the ability to fold
paper that is of heavier and even index stocks. In fact we've seen them
all, and we have no issue stating that the 2020VS is easily one of the
best folders on the market. One feature we really liked was the heavy
duty rollers-the same ones that are included on the 1217A. The better
the roller, the easier it is for heavy paper stocks to properly feed
and process, and we think these rollers are some of the best. Another
great feature is the variable speed control. With this, you can adjust
the speed at which the paper is fed to the machine. This comes in very
handy when you are using glossier stocks, and you want to slow the
process down to ensure a proper grip, and lessen the chances of a paper
jam. Similarly to the 1217A, the 2020VS can
operate at a remarkable speed of well over ten thousand letter size
pages in an hour. That is some high capacity, but as we stated above,
it is great to have the added flexibility that the speed varying
feature provides. The 2020VS has the ability to
produce quite a number of folding patterns. With this machine, you can
make letter, z, half, double parallel, cross, and baronial folds. You
can even set the 2020VS to produce custom folds if you so desire.
Weaknesses:
For
the 2020VS to properly process without paper jams, you will need to fan
the pages that you intend to be folded. This can get just a little
tricky at times, because you'll have problems if you fan the pages too
little or too much. It is pretty easy to get the hang of how to
properly fan the sheets, though, and after you get a few chances to
practice, it should become fairly routine.
Another limitation that you will run into is that the 2020VS, as
flexible as it is, still needs to be set up manually. That means that
in order to change folding styles, you will need to adjust the folding
plates by hand. This can get hairy for the non-mechanically inclined,
and the first few attempts you may have a little difficulty making sure
that the folds are perfectly square and flush. If you are going to be
changing folding styles on a regular basis, and this sounds daunting to
you, you may want to consider purchasing a folder with an automatic
setup system such as the Martin Yale 2051. You
get a lot of capability with the 2020VS, but you will not be able to
perforate or score sheets during the process of folding.
